Advanced Fruit and Vegetable Carving Lessons

This month, I have had a student who flew in from Toronto to take advanced fruit and vegetable carving lessons in order to sharpen up her skills. She has learned some of her current carving techniques from online videos as well as through another friend of hers that knows the basics.

As a caterer for weddings and other large special events in the Toronto area, she wanted to be able to learn a bit more about Thai carving so that she can integrate unique table centerpieces for her client’s receptions, to help create an unforgettable experience.

We went through a variety of projects over the past few weeks, including this shared project that we did together of peacocks, decorated together with other watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, carrot, hicama, and other fruit and vegetable carvings done recently during classes.

And here is my student’s own peacock creation! We will be continuing to learn and fine tune some of the projects we’ve already completed over the next week and see what might be next before she heads back home to Toronto!

She also carved this centerpiece out of jicama, cucumber, carrot, and pumpkin.

And here is yet another creation – a fish carving, made out of a collection of honeydew, cantaloupe, jicama, cucumber, and carrot carvings that she had completed throughout the courses.
