Happy Birthday, Victoria!

Last weekend, my daughter celebrated her birthday.  The weather was perfect, so we had an outdoor BBQ on the patio with lots of friends, food and drinks.  I spent a few hours carving this watermelon for the occasion.   Not only did it spell out “Victoria Happy B-Day”, but I had carved roses around the sides and back of the watermelon, and hollowed out the inside so that it could hold a large amount of watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew balls.   It was a very pretty and very functional carving!  I also used a q-tip and some adhesive to add some silver sparkles to the lettering so that it shimmered in the light.

The watermelon carving turned out to be a huge hit, as we poured vodka over the melon balls and served them to our guests on skewers.  It was a very nice and refreshing way to enjoy some fruit and vodka at the same time, on a hot and sunny afternoon.   If you’re looking for an easy and refreshing way to add some kick to your next BBQ, this is the way to do it!
